Pro-wrestling legend Hulk Hogan has certainly led an interesting life, to put it lightly, so it’s no surprise that Hollywood is giving him the biopic treatment. What is somewhat surprising, however, is that Chris Hemsworth is playing him. The Marvel hero first boarded the project over a year ago in Feb. 2019, but we haven’t heard much of anything about it since. Now, finally, Hemsworth is giving an update on the picture, and it sounds like the film is still — unfortunately — quite a ways off.
In an interview with Screen Rant, Hemsworth revealed that he still hasn’t even seen a script for the film, but he gives a pretty good reason why: one hasn’t been written yet. “Look, I haven’t read a script yet,” the Australian actor said. “I know it’s being written now and worked on. I know very little about that. It’s sort of in the process now.” Despite the lack of movement on the project, however, it sounds like Hemsworth is still involved — and is looking forward to making the film. “I’m just fascinated by that world, and I think they’re pretty keen to show a side of the world that people haven’t seen before,” Hemsworth said. “I’m as intrigued as you are.”
While a Hulk Hogan movie might sound a little silly at first blush, the film actually has some pedigree behind it. Todd Phillips, who earned a Best Director Oscar nomination for his work on last year’s Joker, is set to direct. John Pollono (Stronger) and Scott Silver (The Fighter, Joker) are penning the screenplay, while Hogan himself — whose real name is Terry Bollea — is serving as a consultant on the film. The movie, like practically every movie these days thanks to coronavirus, currently has no release date, but maybe it will get one soon if you say your prayers and eat your vitamins.
