The upcoming short-form streaming service Quibi has been dropping trailers left and right for its original series, and the latest looks like it could be the network’s most exciting show yet.
Most Dangerous Game is an action series about a terminally ill man named Dodge Maynard (Liam Hemsworth) who needs to earn a large sum of money in order to provide for his pregnant wife before he passes away. It’s an extremely dark premise for what looks to be a fast-paced action series, but just wait, because it gets even darker. Dodge ends up meeting a mysterious wealthy benefactor (Christoph Waltz) who offers to bankroll Dodge’s efforts if he takes part in an unusual game. Over a period of 24 hours, Dodge will earn one million dollars for every hour that he can stay alive while the mysterious man and his henchman hunt him throughout the city, trying to kill him. Since Dodge is going to die anyway, he takes the offer, which leads to an absolutely insane game of cat and mouse with 24.5 million dollars on the line. Check out the trailer below.
Nobody plays a villain quite like Waltz, and his presence alone may make this show worth watching. The premise is also fairly interesting, presenting itself as a sort of hybrid of 24 and The Fugitive (the latter of which is also being adapted as a new Quibi series starring 24‘s Kiefer Sutherland, oddly enough). Quibi’s “under ten minute” format should also ensure that the action of the series basically never stops to catch its breath, though it remains to be seen what kind of effect such a short runtime will have on the overall storytelling.
We’ll find out if the show is any good when Most Dangerous Game premieres this April.
