The first trailer for the upcoming Jumanji sequel, Jumanji: The Next Level, really played up the comedic aspects of the film. With new body swaps this time around, including Danny DeVito in The Rock’s body and Danny Glover in Kevin Hart’s, it seemed like the new Jumanji would be considerably goofier than its adventure-heavy predecessor. But the sequel’s latest trailer is throwing that funny stuff mostly out the window to show that The Next Level is a full-tilt, high-speed action movie.
Not that the latest trailer cuts out the laughs entirely, they’re still there, but they’re accompanied by a much bigger focus on action. There’s Karen Gillan swinging on vines and kicking baboons, The Rock driving a dune buggy off a cliff to escape an army of angry ostriches, and what looks like a big action set piece onboard a dirigible. There are also a few updated locations, as in addition to the typical jungle setting, we also see our heroes in a desert world and on a snowy mountain. Here’s the film’s official synopsis, via IMDb.
Jumanji: The Next Level swings into theaters on Dec. 13.
