What do you do if you just directed the highest-grossing film of all time? Well, if you’re the Russo Brothers, you take your act to TV with a new spy series.
Joe and Anthony Russo, the sibling directors behind Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and the last two Captain America movies, have announced that they’ll be debuting a new international spy series called Citadel. Exactly zero details have been revealed about the plot of the show so far, with the exception that it is a “multi-layered global series.” This apparently means that the show will have interconnected sister series in multiple countries around the world, filmed in their respective local languages. This is a new take on franchise building, and it should be interesting to see how it pans out. As for the American version of the show, Citadel still sounds pretty exciting despite the lack of story info. And here’s why:
First of all, the series is coming from the Russo Brothers. They have already proven themselves plenty capable of crafting thrilling action stories in the superhero genre, and we’d sure like to see what they can do with a James Bond-type property, which is what Citadel sounds like. Secondly, the series’ leads have already been announced, and they’re absolutely perfect. Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra have signed on for the show, and they both bring a lot to the table. For one, they’re both experienced with the action/intrigue genre on TV (Madden with Bodyguard, Chopra with Quantico), and they’re both super charming and entertaining to watch.
Citadel has no premiere date as of yet, but when it does arrive, it will stream on Amazon Prime Video.
