The Jason Bourne franchise is one of the best examples of spy fiction anywhere thanks to its breakneck action and the clever twist of having an amnesiac hero. And soon we’ll be able to learn a bit more about Bourne’s mysterious background thanks to a new spinoff TV series called Treadstone.
The series comes from Heroes creator Tim Kring and will feature a number of sleeper Treadstone agents who suddenly and mysteriously discover their latent abilities — and the world must deal with the fallout. If you recall, it was Treadstone that made Bourne into the veritable superhuman that he is, so it makes sense that there are several others like him running around.
The last installment of the Bourne franchise was the film Jason Bourne. After the Jeremy Renner-starring soft reboot attempt The Bourne Legacy failed to ignite the box office in 2012, the 2016 movie brought back star Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass to try and repeat their previous successes. And while Jason Bourne was a financial success, the film was not a hit with critics nor fans of the franchise. Hopefully, the new series, which stars Jeremy Irvine, Brian J. Smith, Omar Metwally, Tracy Igeachor, Han Hyo-joo, Michael Gaston, and Michelle Forbes, can get the franchise back on the right track. There’s already a trailer out for it, and it admittedly does look pretty thrilling.
Treadstone will premiere on USA this October.
