Reboots and revivals may be all the rage now, but they can be pretty hit or miss. More often than not, when a long-extinct movie franchise or TV series is brought back to life, whatever magic that worked the first time around is absent, making the continuation forgettable and regretful. But once in a while, one of these reboots turns out to be pretty great, and it looks like that’s what we’ll be getting with the upcoming Reno: 911! revival.
The comedy series about a team of inept cops policing the biggest little city in the world originally aired on Comedy Central from 2003 to 2009. Filmed in mockumentary style as a parody of Cops, the series was a success, becoming one of the funniest shows on TV during its six-season run and launching a spinoff movie in 2007. Now, the series is returning with the original cast on Quibi, the new streaming network on which all series will be limited to episodes under ten minutes. While most series will likely have a hard time telling a story in such a short time frame, the format will likely aid Reno: 911!, as the series was always basically a sketch comedy series with only the slightest semblance of a storyline tying the various sketches together.
Quibi has released the first clip from the upcoming revival, and it looks like the series’ sense of humor remains intact. In it, Lt. Dangle (Thomas Lennon) believes that the squirrels that have taken up residence in the ducts of their police headquarters sound like they’re singing. Naturally, the rest of the officers don’t exactly agree with him, and he goes a little nuts (pardon the pun). Check it out below.
The Reno: 911! revival has no premiere date as of yet, but Quibi is scheduled to launch as a service on April 6.
