It’s hard to picture nowadays, but back in the ’80s, Mel Gibson was a bonafide action star. With starring roles in the Lethal Weapon and Mad Max franchises, Gibson was just as significant to the decade’s action movie explosion as his more muscular counterparts Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. In recent years, Gibson has focused more on drama and directing, but now the 64-year-old is returning to his roots with the action-packed Force of Nature.
The film stars Gibson as a father and ex-detective who goes up against a gang of murderous thieves who invade his apartment complex during a Category 5 hurricane. Joining him in the fight are his adult daughter (Kate Bosworth) and a local cop (Emile Hirsch) who had been sent to their building to try and evacuate residents.
The film has just released its first trailer, and Gibson is definitely back in fighting form. He shoots some guys, throws a few punches, and rips off his fair share of old school one-liners. He also sports a bad Boston accent even though the movie takes place in Florida, but to be honest, it kind of adds to the fun insanity of everything else that’s going on. This looks like one busy movie, and you can check out the trailer below.
The movie looks like a fun and goofy old-fashioned action movie that could have been made in the ’80s, which makes sense given its star. We’ll find out just how retro Force of Nature is when the film is released digitally on June 30.
