Rambo is back, and he is not happy.
The first trailer has been released for Rambo: Last Blood, and it shows the old war hero being pushed to his limits for the final time. The trailer is light on story, but here’s what we could get out of it: John Rambo is retired and living a quiet life as a cowboy on a ranch when some enemies from his past decide to look him up and start causing trouble. This will, of course, prove to be their downfall, because if there’s one person you don’t mess with, it’s Rambo. Set to the song of the summer — that would be Lil’ Nas X’s “Old Town Road” — the trailer shows Rambo dusting off his bow and arrow, machine gun, and Bowie knife for some good old-fashioned revenge, apparently for the last time.
The plot is rumored to revolve around Rambo traveling to Mexico to take on a drug cartel after they kidnap a friend’s daughter. The trailer does seem to back this up given some of the imagery, like the western desert setting and the young gang of toughs who give Rambo a rooftop beatdown. Sylvester Stallone himself wrote the film’s script with Matt Cirulnick, and the film is directed by Adrian Grunberg (Get the Gringo).
Rambo returns to theaters in Rambo: Last Blood on September 20.
