Kill Bill Volumes 1 & 2 remain two of director Quentin Tarantino’s most popular films, and fans have been begging the filmmaker to make a third installment for years. Now, it looks like Tarantino may be ready to do just that — but don’t head to the theater to buy your tickets just yet.
The auteur has been building toward the idea of a third Kill Bill movie for some time now, having revealed this past summer that he’d recently spoken with star Uma Thurman about the possibility. Now, it seems like the idea is closer than ever to becoming a reality, as Tarantino revealed on Andy Cohen’s radio show, Radio Andy, on Monday. “I do have an idea of what I would do with [Kill Bill: Volume 3],” Tarantino revealed. “That was the whole thing was conquering that concept of exactly what’s happened to the Bride since [Volume 2] and what do I want to do? Because I wouldn’t want to just come up with some cockamamie adventure, she doesn’t deserve that. You know, the Bride has fought long and hard… but now I have an idea that could be interesting. I wouldn’t do it for a little bit … it would be at least three years from now … but it is definitely in the cards.”
While this isn’t exactly a confirmation, it does sound like Tarantino has at least sold himself on the idea of another Kill Bill movie, though he didn’t say whether or not Thurman was on board. Regardless, it’s certainly exciting to hear that Volume 3 is “in the cards,” as Tarantino put it, so we’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed that those cards materialize into a feature film three years from now. In the meantime, you can watch more of Cohen’s interview with Tarantino below, where the director discusses a recent dinner he had with Thurman and his upcoming projects, including a play(!) he’s written.
