Gareth Evans, the director behind two of the greatest action movies ever in The Raid and The Raid 2, is taking his talents to television in the new series Gangs of London.
Evans serves as co-writer and director on the series, which he co-created with his longtime director of photography, Matt Flannery. Gangs of London is a family crime action series that takes place in, you guessed it, London, and it features Joe Cole leading an ensemble cast that includes Star Trek‘s Colm Meaney. “When the head of a criminal organization, Finn Wallace, is assassinated, the sudden power vacuum his death creates threatens the fragile peace between the intricate web of gangs operating on the streets of the city. Now it’s up to the grieving, volatile, and impulsive Sean Wallace to restore control and find those responsible for killing his father,” reads the official synopsis, per /Film.
Naturally, with Evans at the helm, fans should expect some ridiculous action and stellar fight choreography from the series — and the first trailer definitely doesn’t disappoint. The Gangs of London trailer features a ton of brutal action, with a number of bone-crushing fight scenes that put the bulk of Hollywood’s output to shame. Check it out below, but be aware that viewer discretion is advised.
With a ten-episode first season, we’re guessing that we should expect to see loads more awesome fight scenes than just what’s been squeezed into this trailer when the series premieres in the UK on Sky Atlantic and Now TV later this year. A U.S. release date, which will likely be on Cinemax, has yet to be announced.
