There are more and more female-led action movies all the time, from superhero flicks like Black Widow to spy thrillers like Atomic Blonde to just pure, straight actioners like The Rhythm Section. So it was only a matter of time before we got an epic female team-up action movie in the vein of The Expendables, and the one we’re getting just happens to have one of the coolest titles of all time.
Gunpowder Milkshake is an upcoming ensemble action movie about a secret sisterhood of assassins who come together to rescue a mother/daughter assassin team. The bulk of the film takes place in a single night, and it promises to be one wild ride. Karen Gillan of Guardians of the Galaxy and Jumanji fame leads the mostly female cast that also includes Watchmen‘s Carla Gugino, Game of Thrones‘ Lena Headey, Black Panther‘s Angela Bassett, and My Spy‘s 11-year-old star Chloe Coleman. Paul Giamatti is the only male listed among the main cast according to The Hollywood Reporter, and we’ve got a strong suspicion that he’ll be the main villain.
The epic team-up is directed by Israeli filmmaker Navot Papushado off of a script he wrote with screenwriter Ehud Lavski. No release date is set for the movie as of yet, but STX Films has secured the rights, meaning we’ll get a proper theatrical premiere in the U.S. That’s good news, because it would be a travesty if a movie with a title like Gunpowder Milkshake wasn’t released in America, home of probably more gunpowder and milkshakes than any nation on Earth.
