Blake Lively Shows a New Action Hero Side in Explosive ‘The Rhythm Section’ Trailer

Ryan Reynolds may be Deadpool, but after watching the trailer for his wife Blake Lively’s new movie, we’re pretty sure he’s only the second-toughest person in their marriage.

Lively is showing off a new action hero side in the first trailer for The Rhythm Section, a new thriller from Eon productions — the studio that almost exclusively makes James Bond movies. The film is adapted from the novel of the same name by Mark Burnell and is directed by the Emmy-winning director of The Handmaid’s Tale, Reed Morano. In the film, Lively — showing off a passable British accent — plays a regular woman who loses her entire family in a plane crash. After finding out that the crash was no accident and was instead part of a covered-up conspiracy, she sets out on a path of revenge against those responsible.

The film’s first trailer looks pretty slick. In it, Lively engages in loads of nicely-choreographed fights, dons disguises in true spy fashion, engages in thrilling car chase scenes, seduces targets, and dodges bullets and explosions as she inches ever closer to the truth. Watching the trailer, it’s no surprise that James Bond’s producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are behind the film. Frankly, it kinda makes us wish that Lively were in the next Bond movie. Check it out below.

The Rhythm Section hits theaters on Jan. 31.

It’s hard to picture nowadays, but back in the ’80s, Mel Gibson was a bonafide action star. In recent years, Gibson has focused...
