Kevin Hart is known for his comedy, but now the actor is looking to establish himself as an action star. Or, at least, that’s the angle of his upcoming series Action Scene.
In the new series, Hart will play a fictionalized version of himself as he attempts to land a lead role in an action film. While fictional, the series may somewhat be inspired by real life. We don’t know if Hart actually has any desire to be an action star, but the guy has transformed his body to be quite ripped over the past few years and he hangs out with The Rock all the time, so you tell us. Action Scene is set to air on Quibi, the upcoming short-form streaming service from DreamWorks Animation co-founder Jeffrey Katzengerg. As a result, episodes of the series are expected to be no longer than ten minutes apiece. Here’s the series’ synopsis, via the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
After being rejected for an action movie role, Kevin randomly encounters a leading A-List action movie director. Their meeting inadvertently sets off a chain of events that forces Hart to fight his way through a series of over-the-top action sequences with the help of some of Hollywood’s biggest action movie heroes.
The fact that Hart is filming such an action-heavy series at all right now is remarkable in itself, considering that he injured his spine in a serious auto accident just four months ago. After several weeks of silence, Hart recently returned to public life and has been documenting his recovery, so it’s definitely encouraging to hear that he’s doing well enough to take on such a physically demanding project as Action Scene.
It’s not clear yet when Action Scene will premiere, but Quibi launches as a service on April 6.
