A trailer has arrived for Mark Wahlberg’s upcoming film Spenser Confidential, and it looks to be the actor’s most action-heavy role yet.
Wahlberg has made a handful of action movies in his career, and he certainly has the build of an action star, but he’s never really fully embraced that kind of identity. But that looks to be changing with Spenser Confidential, as the film’s trailer alone features enough brutal fight scenes to make Jason Bourne blush. In the film, Wahlberg plays an ex-cop named Spenser who was framed by his corrupt colleagues and sent to prison for several years. The movie picks up upon his release, where he sets out to expose the corruption in the Boston Police Department. Along the way, he picks up an ally in the form of an MMA fighter (Black Panther‘s Winston Duke) whom Spenser has been recruited to train as a boxer (Spenser also used to box, naturally). The two of them bust a ton of heads in the trailer, which has a very Fast & Furious feel thanks to the presence of FF franchise producer Neal H. Moritz.
If Spenser Confidential does well, it could mark the start of a franchise since it’s based on a novel series that contains a whopping 49 volumes. So if you’ve been waiting for Wahlberg to get his own Bourne or Bond-like franchise, it looks like your day may have finally arrived.
Spenser Confidential will debut on Netflix on March 6.
